A pair of French Louis XVI style gilt bronze mounted marble covered urns, Napoleon III period, circa 1850. Each of ovoid baluster form, carved from richly figured Brèche Violette marble (fleur de pêcher) with characteristic violet, grey and cream veining, flanked by a pair of foliate-cast scrolling acanthus handles. The waisted neck fitted with a pierced gilt bronze gallery beneath a cast laurel rim, the domed marble cover surmounted by a finely chased artichoke-bud finial. Raised on an acanthus-cast gilt bronze socle over a shaped, stepped rouge marble plinth. The mounts crisply cast and well gilt; a superb pair with removable covers.
