Dia: 23.5”
A large 19th-century cast iron garden urn after the celebrated Medici Vase, the 1st-century marble krater now in the Uffizi Gallery, Florence. Of campana form, the everted gadrooned rim above a deep frieze cast in high relief with classical figures after the antique model — a seated draped female beneath a statue of Diana, flanked by warriors — over a lower body of foliate and floral relief, flanked by a pair of swan-neck handles. Raised on a gadrooned socle and fluted spreading foot over a square plinth. Retaining a richly oxidized, weathered surface consistent with age and outdoor use.
A substantial neoclassical garden ornament suitable for interior or exterior use.
