No. 1985 / Large Amber Murano Glass Chandelier with Scrolled Ricci, Italy, circa 1950

A large hand-blown Murano glass chandelier, Italy, circa 1950, of exceptional scale at 49 inches high and 42 inches in diameter. Executed throughout in a warm smoky amber glass of even, saturated tone, the tapering fluted standard rises from a conical body and teardrop finial, supporting two full tiers of scrolled ricci — the curled glass ribbons characteristic of Venetian work — above eight sinuous, finely ribbed arms, each terminating in a wide flared bobèche. The glass crisply blown with sharp reeding and cleanly formed scrolls throughout, the whole throwing a warm golden light. Electrified and in excellent working order.
